importance of the small and cottage enterprises as armor against external
infiltration. The main objective of these melas is to highlight the achievement
and capabilities of the Bharatiya Industry and trade in the wake of growing
globalization. An original concept by itself, Swadeshi Melas, exhibit native
products and wares as a Swadeshi response to the emerging economic challenge to
the nation.
So far 55 Swadeshi Melas Have been Successfully organised in different parts of
the country, More than 7300 exhibitors participated in these melas, the local
artisans and manufactures have been benefited a lot out of these melas. It has
proved to be successful platform for them to promote the products directly to
the consumers.
Conferences on
Ethanol and Bio-Diesel as Bio Fuel
Petroleum fuels are always
susceptible to unforeseen shortages, since sources are limited and concentrated
in certain geographical pockets, often leading to unprecedented rise in prices
due to International Policy changes. Such a situation can push a developing
country into a serious foreign currency debt trap, which might spell doom for
the economy as a whole. Therefore countries like Bharat, which are pre
dominantly agriculture based all the more have reason to explore bio-fuels
options.
Ethanol blended gasoline, as a fuel is widely accepted by many countries in
concentrations as high as 20% - 25% ethanol in flexible fuel vehicles.
Bio-Diesel is a Non Polluting recycled fuel made from organic oils. The waste
vegetable oil can also be used to make good bio-diesel. The use of Ethanol and
Bio-Diesel for transportation provides an environmentally friendly alternative
to fossil fuels, as it reduce gas emissions toxins like carbon dioxide, carbon
monoxide, a major contributor of global warming.
CBMD
has taken up this project in a big way; CBMD organized conference on the subject
at national as well as regional level. It organised national conferences for
last two consecutive year- on September 18 - 19,2002 and December 22,2003 in New
Delhi. More than 275 delegates drawn from private, public and co-operative
sector attended it. The conference helped in creating the awareness about the
bio-fuels and lot of recommendation and suggestion came up as to how we should
promote this concept in India. This effort of CBMD to promote swadeshi fuel has
made the Government of India to introduce petrol blended with 5% ethanol for the
vehicles from 1st January, 2003. The work on this project is ongoing. It has
organised regional level conferences on the subject at Pune on March 30, 2003;
at Lucknow on August 11,2003 and January 24,2004. CBMD is working hard in
mobilizing the farmers and manufacturers to get involved in this project.
Conference on Self Help
Groups (SHGs)
Self Help Groups (SHGs) are the
critical force behind innovation and new wealth creation- the key drivers of our
country’s economic growth. The self-help groups in India however, are still in
the early stage of development. Resources are lacking and, with this limitation,
most activities must focus on helping individuals to cope with problems and meet
their needs. The greater the number of people participating in the self-help
movement, the greater their influence will be on social policies. Therefore, it
is vital for self-help groups in India to organize and form links with each
other to impact on policies that affect their lives. CBMD realise the importance
of Self-help groups for the development of the country. And so has organised a
two Day National Conference on “Empowering the Nation through Self-Help
Groups: Issues and Challenges” on 16th – 17th July at INSA Auditorium,
ITO, New Delhi. An attempt was made in this conference to maximize the potential
of self-help resources and to coordinate them systematic and efficiently.
This conference had provide a useful platform to all the concerned organisations
& individuals for a better interaction. Prominent speakers from various spheres
of life like, Government, Banks, NGOs, MFIs and Representatives from various
states actively engaged in developmental activities through SHGs had share their
knowledge and deliver their views on proposed topics.
